OVERVIEW
The idea for the Varna Library is founded on the contrast between the storage of traditional media and today’s “cloud” of information.
Once shelves of physical media such as books, albums, film, and photography were locally curated to create a body of knowledge for the public- today shelves for servers support a global body of knowledge on our smart phones, tablets, laptops and watches. The duality between information is embodied in the design for the Varna Library.
A singular massive column rises as its high capacity storage while spherical voids carve interior spaces to represent the remote, yet physical storage of digital information. The interplay between these two forms represents storage and dictate a new experience for the library.
