The Virginia Tech Solar House involved the design, fabrication, installation, transportation and testing of a solar powered house prototype in a national design competition.
The process was driven by a multidisciplinary approach that challenges sustainable design research through material application. It simultaneously considers technological and architectural content in order to produce quantitative results while enrichingĀ spatial quality.
The prototype was awarded Third Place in the US Department of Energy’s Solar Decathalon in 2005. It is now an temporary exhibit in theĀ Virginia Polytechnic Institute campus.
